Running Isn’t the End—It’s the Invitation - A Devotional Journal

📖 When Runners Are Called

---

🌅 Day 1: The Flight of Moses
Scripture: Acts 7:29; Exodus 2:15–3:12
Reflection: Moses fled in fear and rejection, yet Midian became the place of encounter. God didn’t call him in Pharaoh’s palace—but in the wilderness.
Prompt: Where have you felt rejected or misunderstood? Could that place be your Midian—your preparation ground?
Prayer: Lord, meet me in my wilderness. Let rejection become redirection.

---

🔥 Day 2: Elijah’s Cave
Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1–18
Reflection: After a mountaintop victory, Elijah ran from Jezebel’s threat. In the cave, God whispered—not shouted.
Prompt: What noise are you escaping? What silence might God be inviting you into?
Prayer: God, speak in the stillness. Let me hear Your whisper above my fear.

---

👁️ Day 3: Hagar’s Wilderness
Scripture: Genesis 16:1–13
Reflection: Hagar ran from abuse, but found the God who sees. Her pain was not invisible.
Prompt: What part of your story feels unseen? How might God be naming you in it?
Prayer: El Roi, the God who sees—thank You for finding me when I felt forgotten.

---

🪜 Day 4: Jacob’s Escape
Scripture: Genesis 28:10–22
Reflection: Jacob fled from guilt and deception, yet God gave him a vision of heaven touching earth.
Prompt: What guilt are you running from? What grace might be chasing you?
Prayer: Lord, let Your ladder of mercy reach my lowest place.

---

🐋 Day 5: Jonah’s Detour
Scripture: Jonah 1–4
Reflection: Jonah ran from calling, but God rerouted him through storm and fish.
Prompt: What mission have you avoided? What second chance is God offering?
Prayer: God of reroutes, thank You for not giving up on me.

---

🧱 Day 6: David’s Fugitive Years
Scripture: 1 Samuel 19–27
Reflection: David ran from Saul, but the caves became his classroom.
Prompt: What hardship is shaping your leadership?
Prayer: Lord, build my heart in hidden places. Let the cave prepare me for the crown.

---

🕊️ Day 7: The Disciples’ Locked Room
Scripture: John 20:19–23
Reflection: Fear locked the disciples in, but Jesus walked through the walls.
Prompt: What fear has locked you in? What peace is Jesus breathing into your space?
Prayer: Prince of Peace, enter my locked places. Breathe courage into my calling.

---

✍️ Final Reflection

Thought: Every runner in Scripture was met by God—not with punishment, but with purpose.

Challenge: Write your own “running story.” Where did you flee, and how did God find you?

τηρήσετε (tērēsete)- you will guard, keep watch over Reference: John 14:15 — "If you love me, keep my commandments" — sits at a hinge point in Jesus's Farewell discourse, right before HE promises the Holy Spirit (the "Advocate"/Paraclete). Root verb: τηρέω (tēreō) — not the more common Greek word for "obey" (peithomai/hypakouō, meaning to submit to authority), but a word that literally means "to guard," "to watch over," "to keep watch". It's the word used for a guard keeping watch at a post, or someone safeguarding a treasure. Love is defined by obedience, not sentiment. Jesus doesn't say "if you love me, feel devoted to me" — he ties love to concrete action. In John's Gospel, love is verifiable; it shows up in behaviour, not just emotion. The Greek verb for "keep" (tērēsete) is future tense and follows a conditional — love isn't presented as a prerequisite for a transaction ("obey...
