The Tabernacle’s Timeless Testimony: Hammered Gold and Desert Wood
Reference: Exodus 39:43 states: "And Moses saw all the work, and behold, they had done it; as the LORD had commanded, so had they done it. Then Moses blessed them..
The Tabernacle was built exactly as God commanded through a perfect chain of faithfulness: God revealed, Moses relayed, God empowered skilled hands, and those hands worked in obedient precision.
Two key components embody God’s everlasting plan—the Menorah, a lampstand of pure gold inside the Holy Place, and the Acacia Wood, the incorruptible framework of the courtyard. Both were shaped according to the heavenly vision.
The Menorah: Hammered by God’s Skill- a single talent pure of Gold- 35kgs/ 75 Lbs/ 1,125 ounces - costing roughly 2.6Mn USD as on 2024 estimation. A Continuous hammered method, shaped entirely by hand, without soldering, joining, or welding of any part. It had to be remain one piece. A Central stem, 6 symmetrical branches, some more specific design of Almond-Blossom cups, leaves and petals. At the top of the central stem and at the tip of each of the six branches is a lamp holder. A lampstand frame of to light of 7 lamps Moses, the Project Manager, did not panic, determined, used the God enabled, filled with the Spirit of God skilled workers- starting with Bezalel (of Judah), Chief Artisan & Oholiab (of Dan), Chief Designer and every other skilled persons in whose heart God had put skill (Ex 36:2).
Acacia Wood: The Desert’s Unyielding Frame -Chosen for its hardness, durability, and insect resistance, this desert wood formed the courtyard’s 60 posts, the Ark, the tables, and altars. Overlaid with silver and set in bronze sockets, it withstood harsh climates and constant movement. The courtyard posts symbolize redeemed humanity—strong, enduring, and portable—upholding the boundary between God’s dwelling and the camp.
Key Point: God didn’t just give a command; He also provided the skill. When He makes a promise, He takes us through the process, and we can endure if we stay focused and keep our eyes on Him. Think about how Bezalel managed to build the tabernacle components in the desert, without modern tools, against all odds, and to the exact specifications of God’s design under Moses’ supervision. This wasn’t just craftsmanship—it was a Spirit-empowered, theological act, turning a formless mass into a unified vessel of light that reflected God’s own creative power.
Jeremiah says we are like clay in the Potter's hands, shaped into many vessels to be used by the Master for a long time. The courtyard posts of the modular framework and the carefully hammered Menorah block remind us that we can trust His plans for our lives without hesitation or reservation. We must keep our faith and focus on Jesus as we go through the process to fulfil our destined purposes. It’s a unique but challenging journey, and He will use us in any condition, climate, or season. Whether in a tough or joyful season—like the framing of the Menorah, the courtyard posts, or continually providing light and protection, marking the line between God’s dwelling place and the Israelites’ tents—let us trust Him.
Dear Almighty and Ever-Present God,
We stand in awe of Your dwelling. In the hammered gold of the Menorah, we see Your sovereign artistry: the painful, skilful blows that shape a single, solid vessel to hold Your eternal light. You are the faithful Flame that never goes out. In the hardy acacia wood of the courtyard, we see Your wise provision. You chose the incorruptible, desert-born wood to frame Your Holy space, standing strong and portable in trial. It is redeemed humanity—upright, enduring, and supporting Your testimony in the world. Teach us, Lord. May our lives be shaped by Your patient, purposeful hand—beaten into vessels that carry Your light. And may our foundations be strong in You, standing firm as pillars in Your service, ready to move at Your command. In Jesus's Name. Amen.
Shabbat Shalom from Kent, London. God Blesses.
